Shane MacKinnon

Shane MacKinnon’s love affair with music started at the age of 9, when he was taught to play the trombone by Mr. Gord Cayley at the local public school and shortly thereafter joined a marching concert band. He also has childhood memories of his mom blasting Stevie Nicks and Rod Stewart tunes. He started DJing many moons ago at the legendary West End Wednesday night weekly Hump Day Bump at the Gladstone Hotel, where he also coproduced the popular monthly queer mixer, Foxhole. Both parties ran successfully for several years and are notable in the tapestry of the evolving Queer West neighbourhood. He has also DJ’d regularly at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Wrongbar, Tattoo Rock Parlour, and The Beaver, among many others. Shane plays alto saxophone and has collaborated with local bands, Hidden Cameras, Kids on TV, and Kelly & the Kellygirls. He is also an actor and most recently coproduces aerial circus as Flying Solo at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, in which he also performs as a featured aerialist. His work as an aerialist, in combination with a love for long distance running, & sobriety, led Shane down an exciting new path of physical fitness and wellness and he is proud to add Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor to his title.
