Esther Harvey is an emerging singer/songwriter based in Toronto; with vocal roots in jazz, blues, and soul, her creative process expands into folk, rock, neo-soul, and funk, birthing music with a strongly rhythmic focus and a unique, dynamic vocal quality. Harvey is a self-taught scat singer, and the melancholic timber of vocalists like Nina Simone and Esther Phillips- at once gritty, sensual, and unpredictable- have been a strong influence in her creative development.
Harvey’s performance career began as lead vocalist for Toronto-based band Sister Strange; this two-year collaboration produced numerous live performances in Toronto and Montreal, along with a genre-straddling album of soulful blues-rock with a jazz-inflected vocal style. Her ongoing collaboration with guitarist Ethan Feldman features skeletal arrangements of distinct jazz classics; the duo has performed at a variety of notable Toronto venues such as Lula Lounge and The Drake Hotel.
Harvey is currently unpublished as a solo artist, and eager to develop a presence in the Toronto music scene and beyond.
