She reported on and was invited to the private audience to the historic Papal apology to Indigenous Survivors of residential schools at the Vatican in Rome as she is the daughter of a residential school survivor. A member of Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation in Ontario, Sound feels a sense of pride in breaking down barriers for First Nation people. She brings a distinct perspective to the newsroom, giving a voice to those not often heard in Canadian media. Hailing from Thunder Bay (Long Lake 58 First Nation) and now based in Toronto, he&#8217;s celebrated for fusing electronic music with traditional Indigenous rhythms. His high-energy sets light up dance floors while serving as a vibrant expression of cultural pride, resilience, and innovation. Classic Roots has performed on national and international stages such as Future Forest, TIFF, imagineNATIVE, Luminato, and Trafalgar Square. His work has received critical acclaim and awards. His 20-year sobriety milestone reflects a powerful journey of healing and purpose. Jimmy and Marie are known for their deep commitment to community and their generous sharing of cultural knowledge through education and advocacy. Moving fluidly between house, electronic, R&amp;B, Pop and nostalgic influences from the 80s, she creates sets that feel both intimate and unrestrained, balancing softness with a raw, unfiltered edge.<\/p>\n<p>Since her debut performance at Lee&#8217;s Palace in 2021, KIMIWVN has been steadily building her craft, producing music in her bedroom while refining her performance style. Her approach to DJing is intuitive and emotionally driven, often guiding audiences through a journey rather than a predictable set blending genres and eras in a way that feels seamless, personal, and immersive.<\/p>\n<p>At the core of her artistry is a deeper purpose: to uplift Indigenous girls and women and expand representation within music spaces that often lack it. Formed in the mid\u20111980s as The Breeze Band, they built their sound on southern\u2011fried rock, blues, and country. After more than three decades of playing together, the heart of the band, Randy and Jason Miller, re\u2011launched as The Healers in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Known as a hard\u2011rockin&#8217; band blending crowd\u2011pleasing covers with their own originals, The Healers have performed at countless community fundraisers, celebrations, fall fairs, and major events, sharing the stage with artists like David Wilcox and Crystal Shawanda. They&#8217;ve also become regulars at Friday the 13th Biker Events in Port Dover. Their travels have taken them far beyond Six Nations, playing corporate shows from New York State and Seneca Allegheny Casino to the Bellagio in Las Vegas and even the Bahamas.<\/p>\n<p>Always ready for the next chapter, The Healers continue to evolve &#8212; rising, refining, and bringing their unmistakable Six Nations blues\u2011rock energy wherever they play.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<div class=\"displayGrid grid2\">\n<div class=\"gridUnit\">\n<div class=\"gridIMG\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38323 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ontarioplace.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Nadjiwan-Photo-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Semiah Smith (Band)\" width=\"275\" height=\"auto\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gridUnit\">\n<h3>Nadjiwan<\/h3>\n<p>8:00 &#8211; 9:00pm<\/p>\n<p>Nadjiwan is the long-running musical project of Toronto\/Thunder Bay&#8211;based singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer Marc Meril\u00e4inen, a member of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, Cape Croker. For over three decades, Nadjiwan has blended alternative rock with Indigenous storytelling, creating music rooted in lived experience, cultural memory, and forward momentum.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, Nadjiwan marked the project&#8217;s 30th anniversary with the release of The Mission, recorded in a century-old church on the Mescalero Apache Reservation in New Mexico. The album&#8217;s lead single, &#8220;Not Undone,&#8221; draws directly from Meril\u00e4inen&#8217;s mother&#8217;s residential school experiences, pairing raw, emotionally charged songwriting with layered guitars and expansive arrangements. The record reflects a mature, powerful sound shaped by place, history, and resilience.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing this creative resurgence, Nadjiwan&#8217;s recent release Now Is The Right Time Of Year expands the project&#8217;s sonic and thematic range.
