Matys Colpron is a young composer performer, who has been presenting his original instrumental jazz music on Montreal stages for several years. Having baroque musician parents, he began his musical apprenticeship at the age of 5 on the piano. He then continued this course on drums and completed studies at the cegep of st-laurent in the technique of music and song.

He is now studying at McGill University and is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance. He started composing at the age of 17 for jazz quintet and now writes and produces for both large ensemble and various Montreal pop artists. Through his studies, he surrounded himself with the best musicians of his entourage to present his original compositions and demonstrate the virtuosity of the local next generation. He has had the chance to perform on various local stages and now is looking for bigger projects.

His first album “Home-Cooked Beats” produced entirely duringthe pandemic was an exploration of his creativity with the constraints of quarantine. A demonstration of his capabilities as a producer, much more electronic and produced entirely alone. His second project “Entre Amis” is a celebration of face-to-face music. The project is a “Live” recording that demonstrates his ensemble of musicians playing a diverse repertoire of jazz compositions. The album highlights improvisation and interactions between artists.

His latest albums’Home-Cooked Beats’ and ”Entre Amis” demonstrate his electronic as well as acoustic compositions.
