Ripples in Time is a human-scale spatial clock that renders the passing of time and movement through space as light and colour.
A ring of pillars pulses gently, marking the hours and minutes as they go by. As visitors move through the installation, their presence becomes part of the experience. Through their motion, ripples propagate across the ring, layering over existing tones and creating new patterns.
The installation moves at different speeds—some changes are quick, while others take hours. Each visitor’s experience will vary based on when they arrive and how long they stay.
Ripples in Time exists in dialogue with its surroundings in Trillium Park—the sun in the sky, the rocks underfoot, the warm glow of the fire, Lake Ontario’s stillness when frozen and the crashing of its waves when warm. In a dance with both the landscape and its inhabitants, Ripples in Time highlights change as a fundamental aspect of time.
